The Million Dollar Homepage, reborn as a 24-hour wall

In 2005, a student named Alex Tew sold one million pixels on a single page for $1 each. It was brilliant, simple, and eventually sold out. The Day Wall takes the same idea and turns it into something you can book every day: fixed pixel blocks, transparent pricing, and a timer that resets the wall automatically.

How the original worked

The Million Dollar Homepage was a 1,000 × 1,000 pixel grid. Visitors could buy any rectangular area, upload an image, and add a link. The price was $1 per pixel, with a $100 minimum. Blocks stayed forever — or at least as long as the site stayed online.

The idea went viral because it was a public, permanent monument to early internet advertising. But permanence also meant the wall eventually ran out of space and turned into a historical curiosity rather than a living ad product.

How The Day Wall is different

This wall is built on the same visual idea — a grid of pixel blocks that anyone can rent — but the product is designed for repeated, daily use instead of a one-time sellout.

  • The grid is 8 columns wide, and each block is 240×240px.
  • Every block runs for exactly 24 hours, then clears itself so the spot reopens.
  • Pricing starts at $14.00 for a single standard block and scales exponentially with size, placement band, and run length.
  • Prime placement in the top rows costs 60% more because it is seen first.
  • You choose the exact open spot, upload an image, write a headline, and pay to lock it in.

What a block costs

The wall uses six block sizes. Every size has a standard price and a prime price. The cheapest run is one 240×240px standard block at $14.00; the largest is a 4×2 prime takeover at $371.04.

Why the 24-hour model works

A fixed grid with permanent ownership eventually fills up and stops selling. A wall that resets every 24 hours keeps the best spots available, creates urgency, and lets the price reflect current demand rather than historical scarcity.

It also means your ad is not buried under twenty years of dead links. When your window is live, it is live alongside everyone else who bought today — and then it is gone, making room for the next round.

Claim your block on the wall

Pick an open spot, upload your image, and pay once. Your ad runs for 24 hours, then the block reopens for the next person.
